ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the effectiveness of a therapeutic intervention plan through an existing cognitive auditory training program, adapted for adults, after one year of COVID-19 infection. Methods 13 subjects, between 18 and 59 years old, four males and nine females participated in the study. All underwent anamnesis, visual inspection of the external acoustic meatus, pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry and acoustic immitance measurements as selection procedures. For the research, the following procedures were carried out in the evaluation and reassessment: evaluation of central auditory processing, brief neuropsychological evaluation - NEUPSILIN, Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale and the Cognitive Potential - P300 with speech stimulus. Cognitive auditory training was carried out in six consecutive sessions, in an open field, lasting approximately 50 minutes. In all analyses, a significance level of 5% (p≤0.05) was considered. Results When comparing the variables between the periods, pre and post intervention, there was a statistically significant difference in the Dichotic Digit Test (p = 0.009), in the Frequency Pattern Test (p = 0.020) and in Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (p = 0.001). And a tendency to significance (p < 0.10) in the Gap in Noise test and Total Attention. Conclusion Cognitive auditory training proved to be an effective therapeutic strategy for the treatment of adults with speech comprehension and cognition complaints after COVID-19 infection.

RESUMO Objetivo analisar a eficácia de um plano de intervenção terapêutica por meio de um programa de treinamento auditivo cognitivo já existente, adaptado para adultos, após um ano de infecção por COVID-19. Métodos participaram do estudo 13 sujeitos, entre 18 e 59 anos de idade, quatro do gênero masculino e nove do gênero feminino. Todos foram submetidos a um questionário, inspeção visual do meato acústico externo, audiometria tonal liminar, logoaudiometria e medidas de imitância acústica, como procedimentos de seleção. Foram realizados, na avaliação e na reavaliação, os seguintes procedimentos: avaliação do processamento auditivo central, avaliação neuropsicológica breve-NEUPSILIN, Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale e o Potencial Cognitivo - P300, com estímulo de fala. O treinamento auditivo cognitivo foi realizado em seis sessões consecutivas, em campo aberto, com duração de, aproximadamente, 50 minutos. Em todas as análises foi considerado o nível de significância de 5% (p≤0,05). Resultados na comparação das variáveis entre os períodos, pré e pós-intervenção, houve diferença estatisticamente significativa no Teste Dicótico de Dígitos (p = 0,009), no Teste Padrão de Frequência (p = 0,020) e no Speech, Spatial and Qualities of Hearing Scale (p = 0,001). Houve tendência à significância (p < 0,10) no teste Gap in Noise e na Atenção Total. Conclusão o treinamento auditivo cognitivo demonstrou ser uma estratégia terapêutica eficaz para o tratamento de adultos com queixas de compreensão de fala e de cognição após infecção por COVID-19.

OBJECTIVES: To analyze central auditory maturation in term and preterm infants during the first 3 months of life by comparing the latency and amplitude of cortical auditory-evoked potential at different frequencies. METHODS: In this study, 17 term and 18 preterm infants were examined; all had tested positive on the neonatal hearing screening test. Cortical auditory potential was investigated during the first and third months of life. The response of the cortical auditory-evoked potential was investigated at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz. The latency and amplitude of the cortical response were automatically detected and manually analyzed by three researchers with experience in electrophysiology. The results were compared using analysis of variance and the Bonferroni test. A significance level of 5% was used for all analyses. RESULTS: Latency values of cortical auditory-evoked potential in the first month of birth were significantly higher than those in the third month, and latency values of the preterm group were higher than those of the term group, regardless of the frequency and time of evaluation. In general, the latency of the cortical auditory-evoked potential was higher at high frequencies. Amplitude values in the third month of life were significantly higher than those in the first month for term and preterm infants. CONCLUSION: Central auditory maturation was observed in both groups but with different results between those born at term and preterm, with latencies of cortical auditory-evoked potential higher for the preterm group and at high frequencies.

Resumo Introdução: A investigação do nível mínimo de resposta auditiva cortical tem sido alvo de diferentes estudos em adultos. Devido a questões de maturação, pouco se sabe sobre essas respostas em recém-nascidos. Com o avanço tecnológico, dispositivos de análise automática surgiram com o objetivo de retomar essa avaliação em populações específicas. Assim, novos estudos são necessários para verificar a viabilidade do uso desse potencial auditivo na obtenção de níveis mínimos de respostas na criança. Objetivo: Verificar e comparar latência e amplitude em 80 dBnNA e o nível mínimo de resposta auditiva cortical em recém-nascidos a termo e pré-termo. Método: Estudo transversal, comparativo, envolvendo 59 neonatos, 35 nascidos a termo e 24 pré-termos, com resultados positivos na triagem auditiva neonatal. O sistema Hearlab foi utilizado para investigar o potencial auditivo P1i com estímulo tone burst nas frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz. A busca do nível mínimo de resposta variou de 80 a 0 dBNA e foi detectado automaticamente. Os resultados foram comparados entre os grupos, avaliando a latência e amplitude em 80 dBNA e o nível mínimo de resposta auditiva cortical. Resultados: Os valores médios obtidos para o nível mínimo de resposta auditiva cortical no grupo nascido a termo foram 26 ± 8,81; 26,14 ± 6,97; 29 ± 7,65 e 29,43 ± 7,04 dBNA e para recém-nascidos pré-termos foram de 31,96 ± 10,41; 34,13 ± 11,34; 33,64 ± 11,03 e 37,73 ± 11,92 dBNA, para as frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz, respectivamente. Houve diferenc¸a entre os grupos para a latência de P1i em 4000 Hz e os níveis mínimos de resposta em 500, 1000 e 4000 Hz, com valores maiores em Pré-termos. Conclusão: Foi possível obter valores de latência e amplitude em 80 dBnNA e o nível mínimo de resposta cortical em recém-nascidos a termo e Pré-termos, com resultados diferentes entre osgrupos, com valores maiores em pré-termos.

Abstract Introduction: The study of the threshold level of cortical auditory response in adults has been investigated in previous studies. Due to maturational issues, little is known about these responses in neonates. Technological advances with automatic analysis devices now allow investigation in specific populations. Thus, new studies are needed to establish the feasibility of using this auditory potential to identify the lowest levels of responses in children. Objective: Verify and compare latency and amplitude in 80 dBnNA and the minimum level of cortical auditory response in term and preterm neonates. Methods: A cross-sectional, comparative study involving 59 neonates, 35 full-term births and 24 preterm births, with positive results in the Neonatal Hearing Screening. The Hearlab system was used to investigate the P1i auditory potential with tone burst stimulus at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz. The minimum response level search ranged from 80 to 0 dBNA and was detected automatically. The results were compared between groups, evaluating the latency and amplitude in 80 dBNA and the minimum level of cortical auditory response. Results: The mean values obtained for the minimum level of cortical auditory response in term group were 26 ± 8.81; 26.14 ± 6.97; 29 ± 7.65 and 29.43 ± 7.04 dBNA and for preterm neonates of 31.96 ± 10.41; 34.13 ± 11.34; 33.64 ± 11.03 and 37.73 ± 11.92 dBNA, for the frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz, respectively. There was a difference between groups for the latency of P1i at 4000 Hz and the minimum response levels at 500, 1000 and 4000 Hz, with higher values for preterm infants. Conclusion: It was possible to obtain latency and amplitude values at 80 dBnNA and the minimum level of cortical response in term and preterm newborns, with different results between groups, with higher values in those born preterm.

Resumo Introdução: O potencial evocado auditivo cortical tem sido o foco de estudos científicos. Alguns autores observaram que a detecção automatizada de respostas é eficaz na exploração desses potenciais em lactentes, mas poucos relataram sua eficácia na busca de limiares. Objetivo: Analisar a latência, a amplitude e os limiares do potencial evocado auditivo cortical em recém-nascidos, com o uso de um dispositivo de detecção automática de resposta. Método: Estudo transversal, observacional. Os potenciais evocados auditivos corticais foram registrados em resposta a estímulos de tons puros nas frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz e apresentados em uma faixa de intensidade entre 0-80 dBNA, com o uso de gravação de canal único. O P1 foi feito de forma exclusivamente automática, com o uso do teste estatístico T2 de Hotelling. A latência e a amplitude foram obtidas manualmente por três examinadores. O estudo incluiu 39 recém-nascidos com até 28 dias de ambos os sexos, com presença de emissões otoacústicas e sem fatores de risco para perda auditiva. Resultados: Com o protocolo usado, as respostas dos PEAC foram detectadas em todos os indivíduos em alta intensidade e limiares. Os limiares médios foram 24,8 ± 10,4 dBNA, 25 ± 9,0 dBNA, 28 ± 7,8 dBNA e 29,4 ± 6,6 dBNA para 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz, respectivamente. Conclusão: Foram obtidas respostas confiáveis na avaliação dos potenciais auditivos corticais em recém-nascidos com um dispositivo para detecção de resposta automática.

Abstract Introduction: The evaluation of cortical auditory evoked potential has been the focus of scientific studies in infants. Some authors have reported that automated response detection is effective in exploring these potentials in infants, but few have reported their efficacy in the search for thresholds. Objective: To analyze the latency, amplitude and thresholds of cortical auditory evoked potential using an automatic response detection device in a neonatal population. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, observational study. Cortical auditory evoked potentials were recorded in response to pure-tone stimuli of the frequencies 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz presented in an intensity range between 0 and 80 dB HL using a single channel recording. P1 was performed in an exclusively automated fashion, using Hotelling's T2 statistical test. The latency and amplitude were obtained manually by three examiners. The study comprised 39 neonates up to 28 days old of both sexes with presence of otoacoustic emissions and no risk factors for hearing loss. Results: With the protocol used, cortical auditory evoked potential responses were detected in all subjects at high intensity and thresholds. The mean thresholds were 24.8 ± 10.4 dB NA, 25 ± 9.0 dB NA, 28 ± 7.8 dB NA and 29.4 ± 6.6 dB HL for 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz, respectively. Conclusion: Reliable responses were obtained in the assessment of cortical auditory potentials in the neonates assessed with a device for automatic response detection.

RESUMO Objetivo: comparar os níveis mínimos de resposta por via aérea e via óssea entre a Audiometria de Reforço Visual e o Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Estado Estável nas crianças de seis a 12 meses, com e sem comprometimento condutivo. Métodos: foram avaliadas 60 crianças de seis a doze meses, sendo 30 com e 30 sem comprometimento condutivo. Foram excluídas crianças com má formação no meato acústico externo, com alteração neurológica e/ou síndrome genética, além de portadores de perda auditiva neurossensorial ou mista. As crianças foram submetidas à Audiometria de Reforço Visual e Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Estado Estável por via aérea e via óssea no mesmo dia. Os resultados das duas avaliações foram comparados e correlacionados entre si. Resultados: na comparação por via aérea para o grupo sem comprometimento de orelha média os níveis mínimos de resposta para 500 e 1000Hz foram menores (melhores limiares) para o Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Estado Estável em ambas as orelhas e por via óssea foram muito similares em todas as frequências. Para as crianças com comprometimento condutivo, as respostas por via aérea foram melhores para todas as frequências avaliadas quando obtidas por meio do Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Estado Estável. Por via óssea foram muito similares para ambos os grupos. Conclusão: foi possível comparar os achados para os níveis mínimos de resposta por via aérea e via óssea entre a Audiometria de Reforço Visual e o Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Estado Estável, sendo que a comparação para a via óssea em ambos os grupos, traz uma equivalência nos valores, sendo estes muito similares. Ainda, para a via aérea, no grupo controle, houve valores aproximados entre as respostas de algumas frequências, enquanto que no grupo com comprometimento condutivo os valores do Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Estado Estável foram melhores que as respostas comportamentais em todas as frequências pesquisadas.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to compare the findings of minimum levels of answers through air and bone conductions between the Visual Reinforcement Audiometry and the Steady-State Auditory Evoked Potential in infants from six to twelve months, with and without conductive disorder. Methods: sixty children aged six to twelve months were evaluated, 30 presenting conductive disorder, and 30 not presenting it. Children with malformation in the external auditory meatus with neurological alteration and / or genetic syndrome were excluded, as well as patients with sensorineural or mixed hearing loss. The infants were subjected to Visual Reinforcement Audiometry and Steady-State Auditory Evoked Potential evaluation through air and bone conduction on the same day. The results of both assessments were compared and correlated. Results: in the comparison through air conduction, for the group without conductive disorder of the medium ear, the minimum levels of response for 500 and 1000Hz were lower (better thresholds) for Steady-State Auditory Evoked Potential in both ears, and through bone conduction were very similar in all frequencies. Concerning the infants that present conductive disorder, the responses through air conduction were better in all frequencies evaluated when obtained via Steady-State Auditory Evoked Potential test. Through bone conduction, the results were very similar for both groups. Conclusion: it was possible to compare the findings to the minimum levels of response through air and bone conductions between the Visual Reinforcement Audiometry and the Steady-State Auditory Evoked Potential, being that the comparison for bone conduction in both groups presents an equivalence in the results, being very similar. In addition, for the air conduction, in the control group, there was proximity of responses of some frequencies, while the values for the Steady-State Auditory Evoked Potential test were better than the behavioral responses in the conductive disorder group.

RESUMO Objetivo O objetivo desse estudo foi comparar a latência e amplitude do potencial evocado auditivo cortical P1i entre neonatos em estado de alerta e durante o sono leve. Métodos Vinte e cinco neonatos com emissões otoacústicas evocadas transientes presentes foram testados, por meio do potencial evocado auditivo cortical (PEAC), sendo dez em estado de alerta e 15 durante o sono leve. Para pesquisa dos potenciais corticais, utilizou-se o equipamento Hearlab System, de um canal, no módulo Cortical Tone Evaluation (CTE). O potencial P1i foi pesquisado de forma monoaural, na intensidade de 80 dBnNA, para as frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000Hz. A detecção do P1i foi feita de maneira automática pelo equipamento. A marcação da latência e amplitude foi realizada por três juízes. Resultados Não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os dois grupos de neonatos para os valores de amplitude e latência, nas quatro frequências testadas. Conclusão Não houve influência do estado comportamental dos neonatos na avaliação do potencial cortical P1i.

ABSTRACT Purpose The aim of the present study was to compare latency and amplitude of the cortical auditory evoked response P1i among newborns in an alert state and during light sleep. Methods Twenty-five neonates with normal transient evoked otoacoustic emissions were tested with cortical auditory evoked potentials (CAEP): 10 were in an alert state and 15 in light sleep during testing. For the investigation of cortical potentials, a single-channel Hearlab System equipment, Cortical Tone Evaluation module (CTE), was used. The P1i potential was investigated monoaurally at an 80dBnHL intensity at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz. P1i was automatically detected by the equipment. Latency and amplitude were marked by three judges. The responses of the newborn in an alert state were compared with those in light sleep. Results There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups of neonates for the amplitude and latency values at the four tested frequencies. Conclusion There was no influence of the neonates’ behavioral state on the evaluation of the P1i auditory cortical potential.

Abstract Introduction The tone-evoked auditory brainstem responses (tone-ABR) enable the differential diagnosis in the evaluation of children until 12 months of age, including those with external and/or middle ear malformations. The use of auditory stimuli with frequency specificity by air and bone conduction allows characterization of hearing profile. Objective The objective of our study was to compare the results obtained in tone-ABR by air and bone conduction in children until 12 months, with agenesis of the external auditory canal. Method The study was cross-sectional, observational, individual, and contemporary. We conducted the research with tone-ABR by air and bone conduction in the frequencies of 500 Hz and 2000 Hz in 32 children, 23 boys, from one to 12 months old, with agenesis of the external auditory canal. Results The tone-ABR thresholds were significantly elevated for air conduction in the frequencies of 500 Hz and 2000 Hz, while the thresholds of bone conduction had normal values in both ears. We found no statistically significant difference between genders and ears for most of the comparisons. Conclusion The thresholds obtained by bone conduction did not alter the thresholds in children with conductive hearing loss. However, the conductive hearing loss alter all thresholds by air conduction. The tone-ABR by bone conduction is an important tool for assessing cochlear integrity in children with agenesis of the external auditory canal under 12 months.

Abstract Introduction Mismatch Negativity (MMN) corresponds to a response of the central auditory nervous system. Objective The objective of this study is to analyze MMN latencies and amplitudes in normal-hearing adults and compare the results between ears, gender and hand dominance. Methods This is a cross-sectional study. Forty subjects participated, 20 women and 20 men, aged 18 to 29 years and having normal auditory thresholds. A frequency of 1000Hz (standard stimuli) and 2000Hz (deviant stimuli) was used to evoked the MMN. Results Mean latencies in the right ear were 169.4ms and 175.3ms in the left ear, with mean amplitudes of 4.6μV in the right ear and 4.2μV in the left ear. There was no statistically significant difference between ears. The comparison of latencies between genders showed a statistically significant difference for the right ear, being higher in the men than in women. There was no significant statistical difference between ears for both right-handed and left-handed group. However, the results indicated that the latency of the right ear was significantly higher for the left handers than the right handers. We also found a significant result for the latency of the left ear, which was higher for the right handers. Conclusion It was possible to obtain references of values for the MMN. There are no differences in the MMN latencies and amplitudes between the ears. Regarding gender, the male group presented higher latencies in relation to the female group in the right ear. Some results indicate that there is a significant statistical difference of the MMN between right- and left-handed individuals.

Abstract Introduction Preterm neonates are at risk of changes in their auditory system development, which explains the need for auditory monitoring of this population. The Auditory Steady-State Response (ASSR) is an objective method that allows obtaining the electrophysiological thresholds with greater applicability in neonatal and pediatric population. Objective The purpose of this study is to compare the ASSR thresholds in preterm and term infants evaluated during two stages. Method The study included 63 normal hearing neonates: 33 preterm and 30 term. They underwent assessment of ASSR in both ears simultaneously through insert phones in the frequencies of 500 to 4000Hz with the amplitude modulated from 77 to 103Hz. We presented the intensity at a decreasing level to detect the minimum level of responses. At 18 months, 26 of 33 preterm infants returned for the new assessment for ASSR and were compared with 30 full-term infants. We compared between groups according to gestational age. Results Electrophysiological thresholds were higher in preterm than in full-term neonates (p < 0.05) at the first testing. There were no significant differences between ears and gender. At 18 months, there was no difference between groups (p > 0.05) in all the variables described. Conclusion In the first evaluation preterm had higher thresholds in ASSR. There was no difference at 18 months of age, showing the auditory maturation of preterm infants throughout their development.

RESUMO Objetivos: investigar e comparar as habilidades auditivas entre normo-ouvintes bilíngues estudantes de diferentes níveis de proficiência do inglês por meio de teste comportamental e eletrofisiológico. Métodos: este estudo tem caráter descritivo, quantitativo e transversal. A amostra foi composta por 39 sujeitos (alunos de escolas de idiomas: 13 no nível avançado (GA); 13 no nível intermediário (GI); 13 no nível básico (GB)), com idade entre 18 a 35 anos, limiares auditivos tonais dentro dos limites da normalidade e sem queixas de habilidades de processamento auditivo. Foram submetidos aos testes comportamentais: teste de detecção de gap (RGDT); e ao teste eletrofisiológico potencial evocado auditivo de longa latência (PEALL), com estímulos verbais (sílabas /ba/ - frequente - e /di/ - raro) Resultados: verificou-se diferença estatisticamente significante entre as orelhas para: o GB, para a amplitude de N1 e P2, com maiores valores para a orelha esquerda; o GI, para a amplitude de P1, N1 e P2, com maiores valores para a orelha esquerda, o GA, para a latência do componente N1, com maiores valores para a orelha esquerda, e, para as amplitudes dos componentes P2, N2 e P3, com maiores valores para a orelha esquerda. Entre os grupos, o teste RGDT mostrou menores valores para GA e para latência do componente N1, com maiores valores para o GB. Conclusões: pode-se concluir que o nível de proficiência avançado da língua inglesa estimula a velocidade de conexões neurais desencadeando a ocorrência mais rápida do potencial N1, assim a habilidade de resolução temporal é significantemente melhor à medida que o tempo de estudo aumenta.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to investigate and compare hearing abilities in normal hearing bilingual students, at different levels of English proficiency (basic, intermediate and advanced), using behavioral testing and electrophysiological testing. Methods: this study is descriptive, quantitative and transversal. The sample consisted of 60 subjects (language schools students at different English proficiency levels: 20 at advanced level (AG); 20 at intermediate level (IG); 20 at basic level (BG)) with normal hearing and no complaints about auditory processing abilities, aged 18-35 years. They were subjected to behavioral test: Random Gap Detection Test (RGDT) that assesses ability of temporal resolution; and electrophysiological test Long Latency Auditory Evoked Potential (LLAEP) with verbal stimuli (syllables /ba/ - frequent stimulus and /di/ - rare stimulus) evaluating memory, attention and auditory discrimination. Results: it was noticed a statistically significant difference between ears for: BG, to amplitude of N1 and P2, with higher values for left ear; IG to amplitude of P1, N1 and P2, with higher values for left ear; AG to latency of N1, with higher values for left ear, and amplitudes of components P2, N2 and P3, with higher values for left ear. Between groups, RGDT showed lower values of AG, and latency of N1 component, with higher values for BG. Conclusion: there were significant differences in temporal resolution ability, better for students in advanced level of English and also to the latency of evoked cortical N1 with higher values for students at a basic level.

RESUMO Introdução Crianças com queixas de dificuldades de aprendizagem podem apresentar alterações no funcionamento do sistema auditivo central. O Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Longa Latência - P3 é útil na avaliação funcional das estruturas auditivas centrais, podendo ser utilizado como método auxiliar na identificação precoce das dificuldades de aprendizagem. Objetivo Analisar e comparar latências e amplitudes obtidas no P3 de crianças com e sem queixa de dificuldades de aprendizagem, com limiares auditivos normais. Métodos A amostra foi composta por 30 crianças com queixa de dificuldades de aprendizagem (grupo estudo) e 14 crianças sem queixa (grupo controle), com idades entre 9 anos e 12 anos e 11 meses. Todas as crianças realizaram avaliação audiológica periférica e a pesquisa do P3. Resultados Verificou-se que a média da latência do P3 do grupo estudo mostrou-se significativamente mais elevada que no grupo controle. Quando comparados os valores de amplitude do P3, não houve diferença, embora a média do grupo estudo tenha se mostrado menor, quando comparada ao grupo controle. Observou-se que, entre idade e latência do P3, não foi detectada correlação significativa. Situação semelhante foi evidenciada na relação entre a idade e a amplitude, que, mesmo tendo sido negativa, não foi significante. Conclusão O grupo de crianças com queixas de dificuldades de aprendizagem apresentou valores de latência do P3 maiores que as crianças do grupo sem queixas. Não foi evidenciada correlação nos valores de amplitude das ondas do P3 entre os grupos.

ABSTRACT Introduction Children with learning impairment complaints may show changes in the functioning of the central auditory system. The Long Latency Auditory Evoked Potential - P3 is useful in the functional evaluation of the central auditory structures, and can be used as an auxiliary method in the early identification of learning impairment. Purpose To analyze and compare latencies and amplitudes obtained in P3 of children that complained or not of learning impairment with normal hearing. Methods The sample consisted of 30 children complaining of learning impairment (study group) and 14 children that did not complain (control group), aged 9 years and 12 years and 11 months. All the children underwent peripheral audiologic evaluation and the P3 study. Results It was found that the mean P3 latency of the study group was significantly higher than the control group. When comparing P3 amplitude values, there was no difference, although the mean of the study group was lower when compared to the control group. It was observed that, for age and P3 latency, no significant correlation was detected. A similar situation was observed in the relation of age and amplitude, which, even though negative, it was not significant. Conclusion The group of children with learning impairment complaints presented P3 latency values greater than the children in the group of children that did not complain. No correlation was found in the P3 wave amplitude values between groups.

RESUMO Introdução O Potencial Evocado Miogênico Vestibular Cervical (cVEMP) tem se tornado uma medida fidedigna e complementar da avaliação vestibular. A investigação das alterações de ordem vestibular na população pediátrica é de grande importância, pois essas alterações podem acarretar uma série de repercussões ao longo do desenvolvimento. Objetivo: Avaliar e analisar as respostas do cVEMP em crianças e adolescentes e comparar esses achados entre gênero, idade e orelhas. Métodos Estudo transversal, constituído por 35 crianças e adolescentes, 18 do gênero feminino e 17 do masculino, de 7 a 18 anos de idade, possuindo limiares auditivos normais e sem queixas otoneurológicas. Todos realizaram avaliação auditiva periférica e cVEMP. Resultados Na análise, observou-se que a média das latências das ondas P1 e N1 foi, respectivamente, 15,92 ms e 24,32 ms, da amplitude de P1/N1 foi de 36.91 µv e a razão de simetria apresentou média de 22,95%. Não foram encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significativas na comparação de gênero e orelhas. O mesmo ocorreu no índice de assimetria que foi comparado entre os gêneros. Na comparação entre grupos de idade, também não foram evidenciadas diferenças estatisticamente significativas nas latências e amplitudes. Conclusão Foi possível mensurar valores para latência e amplitude das ondas P1 e N1, em crianças e adolescentes. Não houve diferença nas comparações entre as orelhas, gênero e faixa etária.

ABSTRACT Introduction The Cervical Vestibular Myogenic Evoked Potential (cVEMP) has become a reliable and complementary measure of vestibular assessment. The investigation of vestibular disorders in the pediatric population is of great importance because they can have a series of repercussions throughout development. Purpose To evaluate and analyze cVEMP responses in children and adolescents and compare them among gender, age, and ears. Methods A cross-sectional study with 35 children and adolescents, 18 females and 17 males, aged 7 to 18 years, with normal hearing thresholds and no otoneurological complaints. All of them underwent a peripheral auditory evaluation and cVEMP. Results In the analysis, it was observed that the mean latencies of P1 and N1 waves were, respectively, 15.92 ms and 24.32 ms, the amplitude P1/N1 of 36.91 µv and the symmetry ratio presented an average of 22.95%. No statistically significant differences were found comparing gender and ears. The same happened in the asymmetry index between genders. There were also no statistically significant differences in latencies and amplitudes. Conclusion It was possible to measure values for latency and the amplitude of P1 and N1 waves in children and adolescents. In the present study, there was no statistically significant difference in the comparisons among ears, gender, and age.

RESUMO Objetivo Estabelecer valores de referência para a latência do potencial cognitivo P300 com estímulos tone burst. Métodos Participaram do estudo 28 indivíduos entre 18 e 59 anos. O registro do P300 foi realizado no equipamento Masbe da marca Contronic. Os eletrodos foram fixados nas posições Fpz (eletrodo terra), Cz (eletrodo ativo), M1 e M2 (eletrodos referência). A intensidade foi de 80 dB NA. A frequência do estímulo frequente foi de 1.000Hz e a do estímulo raro de 2.000Hz. Os estímulos foram apresentados na forma binaural. Resultados A média de idade dos indivíduos foi de 35 anos. A média de latência para P300 de 305ms. Conclusão Usando o protocolo descrito, o valor máximo de latência aceitáveis para P300 foram de 362,5ms (305 + 2DP 28,75) na faixa etária do adulto de 18 a 59 anos.

ABSTRACT Objective To establish reference intervals for cognitive potential P300 latency using tone burst stimuli. Methods This study involved 28 participants aged between 18 and 59 years. P300 recordings were performed using a two-channel device (Masbe, Contronic). Electrode placement was as follows: Fpz (ground electrode), Cz (active electrode), M1 and M2 (reference electrodes). Intensity corresponded to 80 dB HL and frequent and rare stimulus frequencies to 1,000Hz and 2,000Hz, respectively. Stimuli were delivered binaurally. Results Mean age of participants was 35 years. Average P300 latency was 305ms. Conclusion Maximum acceptable P300 latency values of 362.5ms (305 + 2SD 28.75) were determined for adults aged 18 to 59 years using the protocol described.

Abstract Introduction Long Latency Auditory Evoked Potentials (LLAEP) with speech sounds has been the subject of research, as these stimuli would be ideal to check individualś detection and discrimination. Objective The objective of this study is to compare and describe the values of latency and amplitude of cortical potentials for speech stimuli in adults with normal hearing. Methods The sample population included 30 normal hearing individuals aged between 18 and 32 years old with ontological disease and auditory processing. All participants underwent LLAEP search using pairs of speech stimuli (/ba/ x /ga/, /ba/ x /da/, and /ba/ x /di/. The authors studied the LLAEP using binaural stimuli at an intensity of 75dBNPS. In total, they used 300 stimuli were used (60 rare and 240 frequent) to obtain the LLAEP. Individuals received guidance to count the rare stimuli. The authors analyzed latencies of potential P1, N1, P2, N2, and P300, as well as the ampleness of P300. Results The mean age of the group was approximately 23 years. The averages of cortical potentials vary according to different speech stimuli. The N2 latency was greater for /ba/ x /di/ and P300 latency was greater for /ba/ x /ga/. Considering the overall average amplitude, it ranged from 5.35 and 7.35uV for different speech stimuli. Conclusion It was possible to obtain the values of latency and amplitude for different speech stimuli. Furthermore, the N2 component showed higher latency with the / ba / x / di / stimulus and P300 for /ba/ x / ga /.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a maturação da via auditiva de crianças nascidas a termo e pré-termo, ao longo de dois anos e seis meses e comparar a maturação auditiva com o desenvolvimento das habilidades linguísticas dessas crianças. Métodos O estudo teve como desfecho clínico a observação e análise das respostas eletrofisiológicas auditivas de crianças, durante o primeiro mês de vida e aos 2 anos e 6 meses de idade. A amostra constituiu-se de oito crianças, de ambos os gêneros, sendo cinco nascidas a termo e três nascidas pré-termo. Realizou-se o Potencial Evocado Auditivo Cortical e a avaliação de linguagem, por meio do Protocolo de Observação Comportamental. Resultados Tanto os bebês nascidos a termo como os prematuros passaram por um período de maturação da via auditiva. Na correlação da idade gestacional e maturação da via auditiva, observou-se que, quanto maior a idade gestacional, maior a maturação da onda P1. Não houve correlação entre os resultados da avaliação de linguagem e a maturação da via auditiva. Conclusão Houve maturação da via auditiva no período de dois anos e seis meses, em ambos os grupos estudados. Observou-se correlação entre Idade Gestacional e a maturação de P1, demonstrando que, quanto maior a Idade Gestacional, maior a maturação deste componente. Quanto às habilidades de linguagem, não houve correlação com a maturação da via auditiva.

ABSTRACT Purpose To examine the maturation of the auditory pathway of children who were born at term and preterm, during 2 years and 6 months. Moreover, we tried to compare this maturation to the development of language skills of these children. Methods It is a longitudinal and comparative study, which presents a clinical outcome related to the observation and analysis of auditory electrophysiological responses at the first month of life and 2 years and at 6 months old. The sample consisted of eight children, of both genders, being five born at term and three at preterm. Cortical Auditory Evoked Potential and the language evaluation were carried out through the Behavioral Observation Protocol. Results Both term and premature babies passed through a period of maturation of the auditory pathway. In the correlation of gestation and maturation of the auditory pathway, we observed that the higher gestational age, the higher was the maturation of P1 wave. There was no correlation between language evaluation results and the maturation of the auditory pathway. Conclusion Based on the results of this study, we concluded that there was maturation of the auditory pathway in the two-year period in both groups. A correlation between gestational age and maturation of P1 was observed, which shows that the higher is the gestational age, the greater is the maturity of this component. Regarding the language skills, no correlation with the maturation of this sample was noticed.
